Tagaung was founded by King Abhiraza and the first Tagaung was destroyed during the reign of King Benna III (33rd). The second person to restore Tagaung was King Dhazaraja. The emperor continued to reign by marrying Nakasin, the queen of Binnaka. It has been ruled by 17 kings since then. Therefore, there were 50 kings in Tagaung. King Thakiwin Abiraza had two sons. When the youngest son, Kan Yar Za, inherited the throne of Tagaung, The eldest son, Kan Yar Zar Gyi, sailed across the Irrawaddy River in large numbers. We climbed up the Chindwin River. He spent six months in Kalemyo Taung Nyo. Later, he established and ruled Kyaukpadaung on the east side of the Kasapandi River. From there, he captured and ruled the old town of Dhavadi in Rakhine State. And he counted them from Abijah. During the reign of the 33rd Banna King, Tagaung was destroyed by the Chinese.
Tagaung seems to have been an important border township during the Bagan period. In the chronicle of the Mon Dynasty, it is written that Anawrahta Min Saw started to establish 43 border towns at the same time, and Tagaung was one of them.
