 Tagaung is a sub-township in Thabeikkyin Township, Pyin Oo Lwin District, Mandalay Region, Myanmar. It is also known as Tagaung Old Town. The old town of Tagaung is not only famous for its prosperity, but also for its history. Historians believe that the beginning of the Tagaung dynasty in Burma marked the beginning of Burmese history. Tagaung seems to have been an important border township during the Bagan period. In the chronicle of the Mon Dynasty, it is written that Anawrahta Min Saw started to establish 43 border towns at the same time, and Tagaung was one of them.
