About the scary tradition in Myanmar

About the custom of killing people at the city gates.
When a new capital was built, a man or woman was pushed under a pillar when a large pillar was erected near each entrance and at each corner of the city wall.

Burmese believe that every person who dies is a demon and is constantly clinging to the place of death. These sacrificial murders sometimes involved the death of pregnant women. The organizers of such ceremonies are usually the Indian Manipur Brahmins, the royal court sages, who calculate the best time to do this.
When writing the book "Past and Present Burma", Lettinn General Fox asserted that twelve men were arrested and tied up at the twelve gates of the city.
